Q&A with Debbie Alton

Please tell us a quick summary about your work background and experience before you started working at Aintree Plastics.

I previously worked in garment manufacturing for over 20 years as an Account Manager supplying lots of UK brands.

When did you start working at Aintree Plastics?

8th September 2025

What is your job title and what does your job entail?

Sales and Customer Support Services – I support the account managers with ensuring their orders run to time and communicating any issues with the customers. Chasing dispatch notes, completing customer questionnaires, dealing with complaints and also working with new customers.

How have things changed in the plastics industry since you began working in it?

I’ve seen the impact of how global politics can affect the prices drastically after the situation in the middle east.

What do you like most about your job at Aintree Plastics, and how does working at Aintree Plastics compare to previous companies you’ve worked at?

I enjoy being the link between operations and sales. Being the eyes and ears for the sales team who aren’t office based. Problem solving and getting satisfaction from resolving issues effectively and working to improve customer service which is very similar to my previous roles but just with different product

What do you do on a typical day, or week, at Aintree Plastics?

I check on what is running on production ready to update the team on delivery dates, cross check all orders, communicate with customers on whatever they need, contact new customers, calculate prices and quote to customers, process complaints to the Ops Team for investigation, keep things moving on

What are the most common questions you get from customers?

When will our orders be delivered and how quickly can we deliver. We focus on great quality and excellent lead times to service all our customers

What is your biggest achievement at Aintree Plastics so far?

Improving on-time delivery and customer satisfaction as well as opening a few new customers

What are the big challenges in the plastics industry at the moment, and how are Aintree Plastics tackling these?

The steep jump in Polymer prices due to the issues in the Middle East. We’ve communicated really clearly to all our customers so no one has a shock! Working with customers to resolve pricing issues for the benefit of both parties

What are your thoughts about plastics and their effect on the environment?

It’s really interesting to see it from this side of the industry. All you ever hear is plastic is bad for the environment but seeing what we do here and how all of our polythene can be recycled completely changes that for me.

What is Aintree Plastics doing to help the environment?

We have an inhouse recycling system which turns scrap polythene back into useable polymer.

What are your thoughts about the new Plastic Tax?

Complex

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I’m a mum of 2 high school kids so that takes up most of my time. I’m either watching my eldest daughter play netball or helping my youngest daughter learn 300 Spanish words at the moment as she is competing in the National Spanish Spelling Bee finals at Cambridge University!

What is your favourite sports team?

Hull City – mauled by the Tigers!!! And we got promotion back to the Premiership this season

What is your ideal holiday location?

Turkey – I grew up there for quite a lot of my childhood and have great memories of spending summers on remote beaches. In a full circle moment – we were there as my dad was an instrument engineer building and commissioning polymer plants and 30 years later Aintree Plastics are supplied by one of the plants my dad commissioned!

What is your favourite food or drink?

It has to be Turkish – an Iskender Kebab that was a speciality of the Izmir Region in Turkey with a glass Ayran
