Avoid the Plastic Packaging Tax (Updated for 2022)

We are working with our customers to prepare them for the new Plastic Packaging Tax, which came into effect on 1st April 2022.

What is the Plastic Packaging Tax?

The Plastic Packaging Tax is a new tax that applies to plastic packaging that is produced in (or imported into) the UK that does not contain at least 30% recycled plastic. Therefore, an inclusion of 30% recycled Post Consumer Waste (PCW) material is required to avoid this new tax.

Recycled Post Consumer Waste Trials

We have been carrying out extensive trials across a range of products and applications to meet the new Plastic Packaging Tax objective, and to support the drive for the development and use of more sustainable packaging.

Our trials have been going very well and have included a full range of products, including films, hoods, liners and bags; for a variety of applications, industries and sectors. These include the chemicals industry, the food sector, the animal bedding sector, the carpet sector, the mailing industry, and more.

EcoExel

We are excited to announce that we can now produce any of our product range, for any application or sector, using blends that contain 30% recycled plastic. This avoids the Plastic Packaging Tax, and is good for the environment.

Our EcoExel product range was announced in September 2021 and is made from 30% recycled polymers. These products are exempt from the new Plastic Packaging Tax, whilst retaining full functionality, high strength, and 100% recyclability.

EcoXtreme

Whilst the new 30% PCW EcoExel blend will be fine for most applications, there may be instances where it won't be ideal due to the compromises that have to be made due to the feedstock variability.

Our EcoXtreme product range was announced in February 2022. EcoXtreme is a high performance and high strength blend, so it will enable our customers to reduce the volume of plastic waste and offset these Plastic Packaging Tax costs when 30% PCW blends cannot be used.

Waste Film Reprocessing

For some customers, we may be able to offer the option of taking away their waste film for reprocessing and working with them to create a closed loop arrangement. If this is something that is of interest, please contact us and we can discuss this further.
